Embattled Pastor James Ng’ang’a of Neno Evangelism Ministry has been released on bond by Limuru Senior Magistrate Timothy Ole Tanchu.
The accused was released on a Sh1,000,000 bond with a surety of the same amount, or a cash bail of Sh500,000 in a decision that was objected by the prosecution.
Limuru Chief Prosecutor Catherine Mwaniki, had requested that the court deny the accused bail. Mwaniki said that the accused might interfere with witnesses whose security she admitted is not guaranteed.
She added that the witnesses hold very crucial evidence against the accused. She noted with concern that the case has generated a lot of public interest and that the numerous followers of the pastor could do anything to see to it that the case aborts.
The defence lawyers objected saying that the argument from the prosecution was speculative.
Numerous followers of the Pastor arrived at the court as early as 8:00am chanting his praises but were barred from accessing the court until at 11:00 when his case was being mentioned.
Tanchu has said that the court needs more time to investigate the incidence and ordered an immediate DNA on the accused.
Ng'ang'a's co-accused have been released on a bond of Sh50,000 each.
