Uasin Gishu County Lands and Housing CeC Robert Ng’iserei has put on notice public property grabbers warning that they would be prosecuted.

In an interview with journalists at his office on Thursday, the CeC said grabbing of public land has hampered development in the county.

He said that the county is finding it hard to initiate projects since the land intended for development has been allegedly grabbed.

“The county is telling grabbers of public land to surrender the property before legal action is taken against them,” said the CeC.

Mr Ng’iserei said that the county has invited the National Lands Commission (NLC) to investigate and take action against grabbers.

"We have approached the National Lands Commission and the ministry of Lands to help us address public land grabbing," he said.

The CeC also said the county would conduct an audit of public property. He said that audit will be able to establish public property and protect it from grabbers.

The CeC urged residents to be careful when transacting land business to avoid being conned. He said that con-men are luring some people to buy land which does not exist.
