Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has called for a sober approach when dealing with leadership issues arguing that the society was being misled by people who had attained leadership positions but lack values and failed to exercise the qualities of a good leader.
Speaking in his Bahati backyard on Monday while officiating the remitting of funds from the Uwezo kitty to different Youth and Women groups, Ngunjiri called for pro development mindset in leadership arguing that some elected leaders fail to fulfil their campaign promises leaving those who voted for them with impression that “all leaders are bad.”
Ngunjiri noted that lack of good role models to young and aspiring leaders was the reason behind the crop of irresponsible and self-centred politicians.
“The problem of being in a leadership position is that some of us get carried very fast with fame and money and end up forgetting that we ought to be role models to the society,” he said adding that a good leader should strive at leaving a legacy at the end of the tenure.
“Being a leader means that people have entrusted you capabilities, so failing in your responsibilities is usually a big let down to them,” the legislature emphasised.
He further asked you people not to shy away from seeking elective positions saying that it takes practice, commitment and determination to make it to the top.
“If you get the chance of leading a youth group, embrace it with both hands and work diligently so that people will miss your services when you are not there and will live to remember your contribution towards their success,” he advised.
More than 85 groups benefited from the kitty in Kiamaina, Lanet, Dondori and Kabatini with about 5M being distributed using different criteria.
