Njoro MP Joseph Kiuna has asked the national government to deploy police officers to schools in the county to provide security for students and teachers.
Speaking at Lwanga Girls Secondary School in Njoro on Saturday, Kiuna said that security is not being taken seriously especially in public schools.
The MP said that with the recent terror scares and threats in the country, the government has no option but to intensify security in schools.
The Njoro lawmaker said that security of students and teachers in schools must be provided.
“It is two months since the deadly Garissa University College terror attack that led to the death of 148 students yet the government has not taken appropriate measures to guarantee security in schools,” he said.
Kiuna said that most schools in Njoro have no security a move he termed as threat to students and teachers.
He said that no one knows the plans and motives of criminals and terror agents and that security has to be provided in schools.
The MP asked Nakuru County commissioner Mohammed Birik to move with speed and ensure police are deployed to schools in the sub-county.
He also asked school management boards and committees to formulate security measures for students and staff.
Kiuna said that since the brutal and shocking Garissa University College terrorist attack, many students especially those in boarding schools have developed fear which is affecting their performance.
