More than 500 residents of Michorwe, Njokerio and Mwigito areas in Njoro sub-county on Friday held a peaceful demonstration over the poor state of roads in the area.

The aggrieved residents, most of them bodaboda operators, accused area MCA Hezy Kung’u of neglecting them despite being the chairman of the roads committee in the Nakuru county assembly.

They lamented that travelling within the three areas and Egerton trading centre has become a nightmare.

“Most of us are forced to walk for more than 30 minutes because of the dilapidated roads,” said James Kiprotich, a resident of the area.

The management of a neighbouring flower farm has also been accused of releasing waste water onto the road causing more damage.

The demonstrators threatened to stop paying revenue to the county government if the roads are not improved.

“One woman is yet to recover from a fracture she suffered after falling from a motorbike that hit a pothole a month ago,” said Daisy Chepngetich.

They called on the county government to urgently address the issue of roads in the area.

In telephone response, MCA Kung’u said that money has already been allocated for the rehabilitation of the roads in the region. He added that a contractor will soon rehabilitate most of the roads.
