A nominated MCA has called on Thika youths to be involved in county projects to ensure they keep away from illicit brews, immorality and criminal activities.

Nominated MCA, Mary Mwangi, said that most criminal and immorality cases reported in the area are caused by idleness since most of the youths in Thika are unemployed. This, allegedly leads them to engage in heinous activities.

Speaking in Thika Town on Thursday, Mwangi advised youths that there are numerous jobs in government departments, including the National Youth Service (NYS) in the ongoing slums upgrading in Thika East and West.

She added that technical institutes in Kiambu are few forcing the youths to stretch the facilities. She urged the county government to think of a way to give their best to the idling youths to ensure they do not engage in crime.

Mwangi's concerns come after seven people died in Kiandutu slums after consuming expired alcohol.

Hospital Ward MCA Mwangi Wamwangi who said he was saddened by the incident said that he is keen to initiate mentorship programmes for the youths.
