North Rift Muslim preachers led by their chairman Abubakar Bin have praised President Uhuru’s decision to travel to The Hague and appointing his deputy William Ruto as the acting president.
While addressing journalists in Eldoret town, Sheikh Abubakar Bin noted that Uhuru had set a good example as a person of integrity and a law abiding citizen.
“We applause the President’s decision. It would have meant a big trouble to this country both economically and politically had the president decided otherwise. Appointing his deputy as the acting president means that our country does not lack in leadership,” Abubakar said.
The sheikhs said that the act of appointing William Ruto in an acting capacity as president was historical and likened it to Mandela’s decision when he stepped down after a one five-year term.
They added that Uhuru had kept his campaign promise of taking the ICC matter as a personal challenge even when elected president.
“It is not usual for politicians especially in Africa, to keep their campaign promises, but we thank him for being honest to the Kenyan people,” Abubakar says.
Abubakar appealed to Kenyans to continue keeping peace while thanking the politicians as well for not politicising the matter.
