Meja who was addressing journalists in Nakuru Town on Monday said that the authority in conjunction with the police will start a countrywide crackdown that will ensure private cars are not used to ferry passengers.

Meja also appealed to the public to stop using such vehicles which he said that they are not licensed by Transport Licensing Board (TLB) to do the job.

"We are soon going to start a crackdown on all vehicles that are not licensed by TLB but are currently working as PSVs. We do not recognise the use of private Probox vehicles to carry passengers in our roads. We have written to the Inspector General of Police about the matter and soon you will start to see action," said Meja.

Meja noted that many of such vehicles do not have a third party insurance cover which covers injuries caused to other people in an accident, but not damage caused to their property or vehicle. The cover is compulsory for PSVs

"Most of these cars only have private insurance cover which means all the passengers being ferried in that car are not insured," he said.
