Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Uasin Gishu County branch secretary general John Bii has asked the county government to hasten payment of nurses’ salaries.

Speaking to journalists in Eldoret Town on Sunday, Bii said that nurses have not been paid their July Salaries an allowances.

He said that nurses were getting frustrated by the delay in payment of their salaries. Bii warned that failure by the county government to pay health workers on time will result to strike.

“We are reminding the Uasin Gishu county government to hasten payment of nurses and other health workers salaries failure to which we will strike,” he warned.

Bii said that it was unfair for the county governments to delay salaries for health workers saying they too have bills to pay.

He added that nurses will not be intimidated and that they will continue to push for their rights.

Bii asked nurses and health workers across the country not to be undermined saying that their rights and demands must be addressed.

Speaking at Moi Teaching Referral Hospital (MTHR) in Eldoret last week, Uasin Gishu County deputy Governor Daniel Chemno pleaded with nurses not to strike but dialogue with county on their demands.

Chemno had said that the government is committed to listen to the nurses concerns.
