A section of politicians in Nyamira have accused governor John Nyagarama of alleged mismanagement of Kenya Tea Development Authority (KTDA) when he served as regional manager.
Charles Mochama, who unsuccessfully contested for the gubernatorial seat in the 2013 elections and Evans Misati, a local politician, on Monday accused Nyagarama mismanaging the agency and demanded that he give information concerning alleged misappropriation of Sh200 million.
According to them, many farmers still demand certain payments that were allegedly deducted from their bonuses to build a new factory in 2007.
“Out tea sector is dwindling just because of one person and people know him. He led the KTDA to cheat farmers of a factory which remains a fiction up to now,” Mochama said.
Misati urged KTDA to expedite the process of reimbursing the funds to farmers, something he says Nyagarama had allegedly pledged in his 2013 campaigns.
“We heard him talk of ensuring farmers are refunded what is rightfully theirs and he hasn’t complied,” he said.
However, the remarks were dismissed by Chepilat MCA Alfayo Mwongeresa who termed the remarks as ‘unfounded and baseless’ while urging political leaders from the area to work with the county government.
