The county government of Nyamira has disbursed Sh15 million towards the renovation of a local hospital in a bid to decongest the county’s main hospital.

Speaking on Wednesday at Matongo region in Nyamira County, Governor John Nyagarama said the county had disbursed the money towards the renovation of Matongo Level 3 Hospital, and directed county chief health officer to ensure the project kicks off immediately.

Matongo Hospital will be renovated to supplement Nyamira Hospital, which is said to be facing major congestion due to increasing number of people seeking services from the facility.

“I understand that Matongo Hospital is facing a major problem of small capacity, but the county has decided to solve the issue. We have disbursed Sh15 million towards a major renovation such that people from Nyamira North Sub County will not necessarily seek medication in the mother hospital at Nyamira,” Nyagarama said.

According to him, the facelift will see the hospital get an additional 20-bed space, which increases it to 40, besides promising to initiate construction of a morgue soon.

“We will expand the hospital to add another twenty beds to the existing ones. The county will soon build a morgue here to avoid taking the deceased for preservations at distant places,” he said.

Nyagarama urged area residents to give his government time to resolve all the outstanding issues, besides persuading them to shun his critics, whom he accused of being an ‘impediment’ to development.
