Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama has appealed to the members of the public from Kisii, Nyamira and other neighboring counties to attend the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) show and learn modern techniques of farming in order to improve production.
“We urge farmers to use the knowledge from this year’s ASK show to improve our farming especially on value addition in Coffee and Banana farming. They will benefit from the knowledge shared during the show and also from the various products exhibited for their application at home in order to improve yield,” he said.
Governor Nyagarama also urged residents of Kisii and Nyamira counties to forge unity which will bolster development in Gusii land.
Speaking on Thursday while opening this year’s ASK show at Gusii Stadium, he underscored the importance of ASK event, which showcases proven modern technological forms of farming for the Nyamira, Kisii and neighboring County farmers.
He hoped to host an ASK show in his Nyamira county in 2016 so that there will be increased attendance of residents to learn various agricultural activities and secret behind success in farming and entrepreneurship.
“We are likely to host a show in our county and the most preferred place is Nyamaiya. However, we will agree on the specific destination with other stakeholders. This will enable residents who find it inconvenient to make it to Kisii's show due to cost implications and other reasons,” he disclosed.
Kisii Minister for Agriculture Vincent Sagwe said farmers will gain more knowledge on farming with the increment of exhibitors.
“In this year, we registered a higher number of exhibitors which is 10, making a total of 80 exhibitors up from 70 exhibitors from last year’s ASK show. This means farmers will have an opportunity to earn extensive knowledge on how to carry out their farming activities,” indicated CeC Sagwe.
