Nyamira County ‘First Lady’ Naomi Nyagarama has launched an initiative dubbed ‘Kuku ni Pesa’, aimed at empowering the women, people living with disability and the youth in the county.
Speaking at Miruka centre in Nyamira County, Nyagarama said that the initiative will help them in developing and increasing their income.
The first lady said that she wants to see women striving to end poverty in the county, adding that the project is only the beginning of such initiatives.
She added that she will ensure the project is rolled out across other parts of the county, and also giving out tissue culture banana suckers that mature in only 13 months.
Nyagarama further called on women to form groups to help them secure loans for development.
“I want my fellow women to rare chicken because from chicken, one gets eggs and fertilizer for your bananas in the farm and for other vegetables that are there,” she said.
The women thanked the first lady for helping them, and promised to work extra hard as they strive to eradicate poverty.
