A Nyakeiri Clan elder in Mwamonari Location in Kisii County has challenged residents to observe hygiene to reduce the spread of jiggers in the area.
Kerunda Mogonga said the area has high rates of spreading jiggers more especially among young children. He said this is in the entire Mwamonari Location.
Speaking on Wednesday, Kerunda noted that if parents are not going to take care of their children’s hygiene, then they will be affected by jiggers. He advised parents and other residents to observe hygiene to avoid the jigger menace.
Some residents in the area have been complaining about jiggers’ infestation in the recent weeks.
“Simple measures could go a long way in averting jigger infestation. First you should be hygienic so you won’t be affected,” noted Mogonga.
He added: “Dirty environments are known to attract jiggers. We should also not use our current state as an excuse for not keeping the environment clean. If we do not observe hygiene, the jigger menace will be here with us.”
All residents have been urged to sweep their houses every morning to get rid of dust which is a breeding ground for jiggers in most cases.
