Residents of Nyamache sub-county in Kisii County have accused police of failing to curb rising incidents of insecurity that has apparently led to the death of at least four people in separate unprecedented attacks within the month.

Speaking at Nyangusu area on Monday during the burial of Evans Mosioma, a boda boda rider who is said to have been killed by armed robbers, speaker after speaker condemned the incident and asked the police to change their tact’s in handling escalating insecurity.

They said police from the region have failed to execute their responsibility by patrolling the region, giving room for the perpetrators to harass and kill innocent people.

“We are tired of the situation our people are being killed in robbery incidents. The police have failed to beef up security despite constant reports from locals and something serious ought to be done in the security sector,” said Obed Onsomu.

They asked the government to transfer officers who are said to be only chasing illicit brewers but failing to give residents enough security when it is needed most.

“Security is paramount and these officers who are only targeting chang’aa dens should be transferred to other regions. They are very lazy and should be perhaps taken to other parts of the country before we protest to the county commissioner’s office,” added Mary Nyabando.

However, Nyangusu police post’s Sgt. Nimrod Biko told Hivisasa.com that police were busy pursuing criminal elements and that they had apprehended four suspects who are due to appear in Kisii law courts.

“We are doing well because our officers have already arrested four people in connection with deteriorating security and they will be charged soon we are through with investigation,” he said.
