Most of the farmers who spoke to HiviSasa said the disease spreads quickly saying that once a bird is infected it dies in less than 24 hours.
Samuel Otachi, a poultry farmer, says he has so far lost over 30 chicken even after seeking for help from veterinary officers from the Sub-County offices in Suneka.
He said when he saw some symptoms he called for his regular veterinary who tried to identify which disease it was but all was in vain.
He added that currently most of the area farmers are counting loses due to the disease and they are calling for quick response from the county agriculture department to salvage the remaining birds.
Upon contacting Bonchari Sub-County veterinary Julius Nyandoro he said their office has already received the report and they are responding on the same before it’s too late.
The officer advised the farmers in the area to euthanise infected birds to avoid infecting the healthy ones adding that they were also required to dispose them by burying them in a pit at least 3 feet deep.
