Zachary Kerauni a youth leader from Nyansiongo parish, Borabu constituency will hold civic education against the use of condoms among young people coming Sunday.

The exercise which is expected to take two weeks will cover twenty catholic churches from the region and is expected to culminate with attendance of Diocese of Kisii Bishop Joseph Mairura.

Speaking in his office on Thursday Zachary Kerauni who coordinates youths from the Parish said the major aim of the activity will be to educate youths against engaging in pre-marital sex besides imparting the doctrines of the church.

“We will be having a beehive of activities across all churches in Nyansiongo parish for two weeks. The objective of the exercises in to rally against the use of condoms among the youths when having sex since the church teaches us abstinences till marriage,” he said.

He said the rallies will also be a good opportunity of improving integration among the youths besides exposing them to various contemporary issues.

“The meeting will not only enable us to inform the youths about the church doctrines but also improve integration among us. As youths, we have to educate each other on contemporary issues in the society,” he said.

The exercise might elicit heated debate between the church and health professionals who have been in a constant logger heads over the issue for many years as Keroka based Richard Ongaro said.

“The beliefs of the Catholic Church and the professionals from the health sectors are totally divergent. The church has failed to give us real solutions because the rate of premarital sex among our youths is rampant and therefore we must oppose the teachings,” he said.
