Nyamira County commissioner Mrs Josephine Onunga has declared war on illicit brews in the county vowing to wipe them out.
Addressing the press in her office on Tuesday, Mrs Onunga said the exercise was bearing fruits adding that the brewing and sale of the illicit alcohol had reduced drastically.
She vowed to stop at nothing to ensure that the whole county was safe and free from the menace.
Onunga congratulated the courts for supporting the war on illicit brews noting that heavy fines of as high as Sh200,000 were imposed on the perpetrators as a way of discouraging them from the business.
“I want to say that so far the exercise is going on well and we have seen fruits. The graph of the brewers is dropping drastically. This is a good move and we are not stopping until the whole county is declared free of illicit brew. I also congratulate our courts for working to see the illegal business is discontinued and call on the affected to change their business,” she said.
Mrs Onunga attributed the decrease in cases like rape, defilement and theft to the on-going operation as the drinking dens encouraged the vices.
Onunga encouraged addicts to come out and get assistance from the government in rehabilitating them to ensure that they get out of the habit completely.
