A family from Nyagachi village in Nyamira has accused area police officers of conspiring with their neighbour to execute a kin after having a land dispute.

Speaking in the village during the burial of Mr Simon Nyakundi, speakers urged the government to investigate and take an action against a Nyagachi police post officer, who they accused of luring the deceased to visit a pub in Nyamira before his badly mutilated body was found dumped in a nearby bush.

According to them, an officer, who they vowed to reveal his name once investigations are initiated called the deceased and went ton have a drink.

“We know how they planned and executed the killings. The neighbor, whom you all know conspired with the police officers to kill our son. Postmortem showed that he was short from a close range before being hit with a blunt object,” said Mr Kennedy Onsongo.

They threatened to conduct a mass protest to force transfer of officers from the police post since they have allegedly started collaborating with criminals to harass residents.

“Their mode of operation is well known and time has come for the government to take an action or we show them we are important. The Ministry of Interior should come out clear before we organise mass protests,” added Mr Pius Nyabando.

However, Nyagachi police coordinator John Mongare distanced officers from the claims and accused residents of failing to work together with the police to quash organised criminals.

“As police officers, we are much disciplined. Those allegations are meant to taint our good image. Residents should ensure that they work hand in hand with police officers to curb such crimes,” he said.
