A Nyamira Member of County Assembly has challenged the department of finance to disburse over Sh6 million that were set aside for every ward for development.
This comes a day after a section of youths from Gesima ward took the area MCA head on and accused him of deliberately delaying to award bursaries to students in various universities and colleges.
However, on Thursday, Mr Ken Atuti who also chairs the education committee in the county assembly accused treasury of playing delay tactics with the funds meant for development. He threatened to take the issue to the assembly for discussion.
He said many projects across the county had stalled with area residents mounting pressure on MCAs.
“As MCAs we are persistently facing unwarranted attacks from residents on issues that the treasury should have tackled many months ago. The budget was read and the department should have actually disbursed the funds to our respective accounts. Residents are blaming us. We will take a step if treasury doesn’t act quickly,” he said.
Atuti called on the county boss and his executive members to respect the assembly and its decisions or face endless wars.
“By failing to disburse the funds in time it means the executive has belittled us. They risk facing our wrath. The governor and his team should learn to respect all departments,” he warned.
Over 200 students of universities and colleges from Gesima ward had applied for bursaries and the MCA had promised to ensure the money would be disbursed to their respective schools by mid-August.
