Persons living with disabilities in Nyamira County are finding it difficult to access services from government offices in the area.
According to the County chairman for persons living with disabilities Nyaundi Nyaosi all the government offices in the area were inaccessible to the lame and blind persons since they lacked climbing ramps or electric lifts.
Nyaosi said that the problem was affecting them while seeking services both at the county government and national government offices.
Currently, the Nyamira governors’ offices and other national government departmental offices are housed at the four storey county headquarters block in Nyamira town.
Nyaosi said the disabled people were finding it difficult to scale up the staircases leading to the offices as a result lacking crucial government services.
He appealed for introduction of ramps or lifts in the government offices to make it possible for persons with disabilities to gain access to public services.
“We want the county government to consider us and build special structures that will allow us access the area with ease than the current offices which do not favor us at all,” said Nyaosi.
He blamed the planners for not keeping in mind the fact that the society has the disabled and he called upon the new county offices and public offices coming up to consider the disabled.
