Men seeking elective posts from Nyamira County will have tough times in clinching the seats following a formation of Women league that will be mandated to traverse the county and sensitize women on their roles in leadership.
According to information gathered from credible sources, the movement duped Nyamira for Women are sponsored by influential women in the region under the leadership of area Women Rep, Alice Chae.
Speaking on Wednesday during a burial ceremony in Borabu, the movements Secretary General Mrs. Evelyn Kerubo, she urged women from the Abagusii community to rise up to the occasion and elect more women to elective posts besides desisting from depending on seats available for nominations.
“As Nyamira women, let us be good role models to Abagusii community. Women are capable of electing a good number to various positions. This is the perfect opportunity for us to ensure we have much representation in our 14 constituencies from Gusii region,” she said
She hinted that the movement will be moving across the county to urge more women to seek leadership positions besides organizing public lectures from women who have succeeded in the in terms of leadership and careers.
“We agreed to traverse the entire county to ensure that our women are sensitized with the position and roles in the society. We will further have more successful women speaking to us to change our perception about our contribution to the society,” she said.
Both Kisii and Nyamira County are on record for not having elected a woman representative to parliament since independence till the introduction of the affirmative seats of women reps.
