Hundreds of residents from Nyangusu held a peace meeting to reconcile two communities after one of the members died under controversial circumstances.
The death of David Lunkira almost led to confrontations after accusations of foul play arose between the two neighbouring communities, Abagusii and Maasai.
However, on Thursday, elders from the two communities presided over a large meeting to discuss the way forward in a bid to iron out issues and prevent any conflict.
“We are brothers and sisters, and being unfriendly to each other will not help solve our problems. I call upon all of us to live in peace and harmony for the sake of our young generations. Let us give authorities time to investigate and bring the perpetrators to book,” said Mr Jackson Parpai of the Maasai community.
His Abagusii counterpart Mr James Orina condemned the incident and urged the locals to be tolerant of each other during the difficult time.
“We don’t condone murder but let’s not jump into conclusions. Whoever committed the crime should be arrested to face murder charges but as neighbours, let us be tolerant to each other,” he said.
The two communities agreed to form a reconciliation committee of three members each from either side of the divide to preside over future integration meetings.
