A group of 10 people from Nyangusu area in Kisii has immensely reaped from the savings they have been making since 2010 when they formed the ‘Cobra Group’.
Speaking to HiviSasa.com on Sunday at the site where they had constructed a new house from which they will set their planned multi-million business, they said the Sh1.3 million saving they had made from buying and selling cows was instrumental in buying the 1ha piece of land where they will also launch other businesses.
They said that the business was tough but through good management skills, they managed to make the savings.
“It was a tough journey but I am glad we have finally made it," said Mr Elkanah Mayaka.
"We have made savings from the business and I am glad that we have made gains. The land that we have bought will be used in poultry farming, banana farming and a general wholesale shop.”
They urged the younger generation to make little savings and desist from depending on politicians for help.
“We started by saving very little money and that is why I want to encourage youths to make use of the little cash they have instead of depending on politicians for help,” added Mr Jonathan Omweri.
They, however, faulted the Kisii County government for imposing huge taxes on them that has partly hindered their businesses.
“They always want us to pay up to Sh500 for very cow sold and this is really a huge amount of money. I want to appeal to the county leadership to reduce the taxes imposed on us,” Omweri added.
