A new political party has been registered in Nyanza region to champion democracy in the area.
Citizens Convention Party (CCP) has now been awarded a certificate by the Registrar of Political Parties, Lucy Ndun’gu, after more than one year waiting.
CCP Party leader Grace Akumu said the party main objective is to ensure entrenchment of full democracy.
Akumu said the democratic space in Kenya and Nyanza region has been limited. She added that CCP will not only talk but practice democracy especially free and fair nominations.
She said the party will not support monopolistic or individualistic politics but rather will rally support behind people chosen by individuals.
Speaking in Kisumu on Tuesday at Museum View Hotel while presenting the registration certificate to the party members drawn from the country, Akumu said the party will also not entertain corruption.
She said in the past most parties have had chaotic elections because of favouritism, clanism and even selling of party certificates to the highest bidders.
“In our party we will strive to ensure democracy prevails. We want to be different from other parties during nominations,” she said.
Akumu said the party will also root for basic human rights and development and policy issues that will elevate Kenyans to a different level.
