Kiambu women representative Anne Nyokabi has asked the county government to engage youths in development in a bid to curb cases of youths engaging in crime.

Addressing youth at Ruiru Town on Monday, Nyokabi said that a large number of youths in the county are taking part in crime.

She said that some youths have become depressed and restless due to lack of employment and find crime as an easy option.

“Our county government must find ways of helping the youths find employment,” he said.

The women rep said that cases of crime involving youths are being reported in some parts of the county.

She also raised concerns over high number of youths abusing drugs and engaging in prostitution.

“It is unfortunate that many of our youths are seeing crime and prostitution as easy ways of getting money,” she said.

The women rep asked leaders to come up with ideas and policies that will prevent the youth from engaging in criminal activities.

Nyokabi said that Kiambu is at risk of losing its youthful population either to crime, drug abuse and prostitution.

The women rep urged the government to increase allocations to the Uwezo Fund to enable many marginalised groups to access the funds.

She noted that the current allocation is not enough to meet the high number of youths, women and persons living with disability in the county.
