Women representatives cross the 47 counties have been asked to use the Sh2 billion allocated to them by the national government to advance women agenda and empowerment programmes.

Speaking to journalists at Uthiru Shopping Centre on Wednesday, Kiambu Women Rep Ann Nyokabi lauded the National Treasury for allocating the funds to women.

She said through the funds, women representatives will be able to spearhead various development issues mostly touching on women.

Nyokabi lashed out at a section of leaders who questioned the allocations saying they are enemies of development.

The women rep said for development to be realised, there must be equitable allocation of resources.

“We are happy with the government's move to allocate Sh2 billion development funds to women representatives. The funds will help us reach and empower the people especially women,” she said.

The women rep urged her fellow women representatives to use the funds wisely by injecting some of the funds into women projects.

The Kiambu women leader at the same time urged women leaders to be vocal and ensure their voices are heard on matters of national interest.

She said women voices are needed especially now when the country is facing security challenges.

Nyokabi said as women, they have every right to contribute and make suggestions on development matters.
