The National government has engaged about 700 youths in Bonchari constituency to work with National Youth Service personnel to rehabilitate and revive stalled projects that were vandalized during the height of banditry in the area.

According to Bonchari MP Zebedeo Opore, each youth will be paid Sh471 per day, while artisans will receive Sh1,000 per day until the end of the process of rebuilding the schools in the area.

The MP urged area residents to cooperate with the National Youth Service group so that they can bring development to the area.

“They have already started renovating Gesero Primary School and staff houses, which were getting old forcing teachers and pupils to flee to the nearby schools,” he said on Monday at the school.

The National Youth Service (NYS) is undertaking projects in Bonchari and Kitutu Chache South constituencies in Kisii County, under the Ministry of Devolution and Planning.

The two constituencies benefited from these youth and women projects, which were directly sourced by their two respective members of parliament; Zebedeo Opore and Richard Onyonka.

The county government of Kisii does not have any control on how the projects were sourced and operate.
