Residents of Seregeya Village, Turbo have posed that the famous Nyumba kumi initiative is not a remedy to everything.
They have said that petty theft cases and attacks cannot be covered by the initiative owing to the fact that most of the culprits are from their local area. Area assistant Chief, Diana Owano Otenda, has however urged the residents through many forums and meetings to embrace the government's idea and work hard to implementing it.
The latest event has been the loss of a mobile phone while charging in a resident's sitting room at night.
'I think the thief just opened the window through their own means. I locked the window but on waking up, I found it open and my mobile phone which was charging on the cupboard missing,” lamented Linet Naima, a Seregeya resident.
She went ahead to say that these cases have been on the rise, with 'local' thieves taking advantage of the locality to steal from members.
“We are working hard to curb these rising theft cases. Anybody found with stolen goods will be subjected to full force of the law,” said the assistant chief.
She has congratulated the residents after most of them implemented the Nyumba Kumi Initiative, in a move to curb Insecurity.
