With a lot of activities expected on the roads this week after schools reopened for the third term, Nakuru OCPD Benard Kioko has called on operators to stick to the law to avoid inconveniences.
Addressing operators at the main bus park in Nakuru’s Central Business District (CBD) on Tuesday, Kioko noted that it was their responsibility to ensure that what is required is maintained on the roads.
“I have taken the initiative of talking to them (operators) today because we don’t want to leave anything to chance,” he said, adding that the traffic department had been boosted to ensure no law was broken.
Kioko said that a majority of operators usually took advantage of such peak times like the back-to-school period to break the law something he attributes to the continuous number of accidents.
“Better carry the required capacity, reach safely and come back for another trip than overload and never reach your destination,” he advised.
He called on Sacco chairmen to help them streamline the sector arguing that they were the people in the field who had the mandate of ensuring their crew adhered to the law.
“Police officers might not be everywhere; Saccos should work with us in ensuring that our people travel safely. Let’s be human and live in an accommodative society because a slim mistake can prove disastrous,” the police boss added.
The teachers strike has not affected the sector with different drop and pick up points within the city and its environment being flooded with students for the better part of the day.
