Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has urged motorists and other road users in the county to adhere to traffic regulations.

Speaking at Eldoret Town when he inspected ongoing road projects, Mandago urged motorists to exercise discipline when using the roads.

He said that road accidents will decline if motorists and pedestrians adhere to the existing traffic  laws.

Mandago cited ignorance of the laws as the leading cause of accident in the county saying that stern action must be taken against errant motorists if road accidents are to reduce.

The governor said that the county has embarked on construction of foot lanes for pedestrians and and other separate lanes for bodaboda riders.

He said the construction of pedestrian lanes will reduce cases where pedestrian and bodaboda riders are hit by vehicles.

“The county  government has started construction of separate foot lanes for pedestrians and bodaboda riders to help reduce cases of accidents,” he said.

Mandago also stated that the government has pumped billions of shillings into road repairs and installation of traffic and street lights in Eldoret and adjacent towns.

He said that installation of traffic lights will guide motorists and further help reduce accidents.

The governor indicated that street lights and surveillance cameras will be installed along the Eldoret-Malaba Highway.

Mandago intimated that his government will work with investors to boost road and infrastructure development in Uasin Gishu.
