Nominated MP Oburu Oginga has threatened to take Deputy President William Ruto to court for alleging that Specter International owes Mumias Sugar.

Oburu told Ruto not to use the debt issue to divert attention of Kenyans from the controversial sugar importation deal signed between Kenya and Uganda.

The MP said the debt the deputy president is talking about has no connection with the importation of sugar into the country.

“It beats logic for the Deputy President to bring the issue of Specter into all this. Kenyans want to know more about the sugar importation deal,” he said.

He challenged Ruto to stick to the sugar deal that will expose sugarcane farmers to more misery instead of dragging Specter International Company to the fiasco.

Speaking to farmers drawn from the Nyando Sugar belt in Muhoroni constituency on Friday, Oburu said the molasses plant associated with the Odinga family is not indebted to Mumias.

He asked Ruto to produce evidence that shows that Mumias is owed some money failure to which he will take legal action against the Deputy President for defamation.

“This is defamation and I will press charges against Ruto if he fails to adduce evidence linking our company to the Mumias debts,” he said.

His brother Raila Odinga who was also present in the meeting refuted such claims noting that those are attempts to kill the momentum building to reject the sugar deal.
