Nyamira MPs and MCAs affiliated to ODM party have held a sensitisation meeting with over 300 ODM delegates across the county ahead of grassroots elections slated for October 31.
Speaking on Monday at the meeting that was organised at Kenya Industrial Estates in Nyamira town, the leaders urged the delegates to exercise peace and tolerance during the upcoming elections.
West Mugirango MP Dr James Gesami said that leaders should respect one another and be ready to exercise peace in the coming elections, as the party respects democracy and that is a reason there is competition in elections.
"All leaders, despite their stature should respect one another and be ready to exercise peace as our ODM party respects and upholds democracy, and that is why there is competition in elections," said Gesami.
Gesami further said that even though he may lose a seat to his fellow competitors, he won't cease being a member of the party, adding that he is not fearful but only believes in civilization and order.
"Even though I lose any post that I will be contesting for in the coming elections, that won't make me cease being a member of ODM party and that will not mean that I am a coward but i believe in civilization and order," he added.
North Mugirango MP Hon Charles Geni said that he will also be in the ballot, but further urged residents to pray for the coming elections.
"I will be contesting in the upcoming elections and I urge all residents of Nyamira to be prayerful for the elections to be peaceful," urged Geni.
Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire, who happens to be the national treasurer of ODM, said that the large membership of delegates the party is enjoying is due to good leadership that has seen a representation from the grassroots level up to national.
"The coming elections will be a way of forging forward for a better future under ODM as it will help revamp the leadership of the party, but for that to be achieved, love and unity must prevail for the party's prosperity," said Bosire.
In the recent past, ODM grassroots elections in some parts of the country have been marred with violence and hooliganism, something that begs questions of a free and fair election.
