Uasin Gishu commissioner Abdi Hassan has said that the war on illicit brews is still on and the county will continue fighting it.
Speaking during a function that brought together chiefs, assistant chiefs, deputy county commissioners from the county, the county commissioner said the war on illicit brews is still on and anyone found will be prosecuted.
Mr Hassan said any chief or assistant chief who will be found neglecting his/her duties of fighting the illicit brews will be interdicted and prosecuted for negligence of duty.
“The war on illicit brews and second generation alcohol is still on and we cannot stop until we totally finished it,” said Hassan.
The commissioner pointed out that the county has managed to win fight on the preparation and consumption of illicit brews but still facing some few challenges were the sellers have invented another mode of selling their merchandise but the administration officers are on watch out.
The official highlighted that the sellers are mixing the water with chemicals in hospitals, baking cake, biscuits with chemicals so as to induce drunkard and they also sell at bus stations and other places but the law enforces are trailing them.
“The invention of the new means of selling by these sellers is a clear indication that we have overpowered them and we will not stop this, we are switching to another mode of tracking them,” Hassan.
The commissioner lamented that there are some people who are colluding with the criminals by receiving the bribes so has to escape the arm of the law and he warn the administrators and chiefs that any one who will be found will face the legal action adding that 10 chiefs are under tough scrutiny for failing to do their work as required but they have been given warning.
