One person died and three others were badly injured on Monday morning, among them a student, after a vehicle lost control at Sironga trading centre.
The vehicle, which was en route to Kisii from Nyamira, according to one eye witness, lost control when it approached the trading centre and swayed from side to side before first hitting an oncoming motorcycle badly injuring both the customer and the operator.
It then landed on the road side shades where it killed one on the spot and injured another, who is said to be a motorcycle mechanic at the centre.
Jackson Maisiba, who owns the garage where one was killed, said he survived by luck as he had gone for a spare from his nearby rented house.
“I can’t explain how this miracle has happened but its God’s plans that I survived. I was here a short while but I had to go for a missing spare in my house a few meters from the scene, but as I was getting out of my house, I heard a commotion and saw a vehicle pushing our tents but could not help because it was too fast. I saw four people lying on the ground,” he said.
Confirming the incident, Nyamira OCPD Ngare Rico termed the incident fatal and urged motorists to take caution while approaching danger zones like corners and sharp bends.
He also warned them to consider their speed when approaching trading centres to avoid such incidents in the future.
The body of the deceased was taken to Nyamira Referral Hospital mortuary for post-mortem services.
