One person died while 13 others were injured on Thursday after the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in an accident near Kahawa Barracks on Thika Road.
Ruiru traffic base commander Daniel Sabimbi said the vehicle veered off the road and landed into a ditch.
The matatu, belonging to Kamuna Sacco, was ferrying passengers to Thika Town from Nairobi when the accident happened. Police said the driver lost control of the vehicle as he was trying to avoid hitting a boda boda rider.
Mr Sibimbi cautioned motorists against driving recklessly and speeding to ensure they are safe. He noted that accidents are on the rise along the highway adding it has become hard to tame them due to the careless driving by the motorists.
He faulted boda boda operators in Githurai who he said have been speeding along the superhighway and thus endangering the lives of passengers and pedestrians.
The casualties were rushed to St. Francis Hospital, Kasarani before they were later referred to Kenyatta National Hospital. Among the injured was the driver of the Matatu.
