Kisii Governor James Ongwae has been challenged by a section of Nyaribari residents to consider developing all regions regardless of the perceived party or political affiliation.
Led by Kiogoro Ward Representative Samuel Apoko, they on Monday accused the governor of ignoring the larger Nyaribari region that overwhelmingly voted for Ongwae’s main challenger Lumumba Nyaberi during the 2013 polls.
According to them, most roads in the region were still in deplorable conditions, despite Ongwae’s record of improving most roads from the county.
“We know that he (Ongwae) didn’t score well from our region and that is why maybe he has given us a wide berth. However, we want to remind him that he has the obligation to develop all regions regardless of our political stand. Many of our feeder roads are in a poor condition compared to other regions,” Apoko said.
They took on Governor Ongwae on the current construction of the banana market at Keumbu, whose construction they termed as ‘slow and substandard.
“The Keumbu market in our constituency is being constructed at a slow manner despite the constant taxes we pay to the county government. I also don’t think it’s standard because the region is the largest market for bananas and therefore I expected something big,” Apoko added.
The sentiments from the region may be devastating for Governor Ongwae, given that Apoko is a close confidant of the county boss.
