Kisii County ‘First Lady’ Elizabeth Ongwae has raised concern over the number of twilight underage girls roaming on the Kisii streets at night.
Ongwae has expressed fear that if the culture is condoned in the area, then it will negatively influence the future of other young girls and even tempt those in boarding schools to sneak at night to engage in commercial sex trade to the detriment of their life and education careers.
Speaking at Ibeno CoG Primary school where she presided over donation of sanitary pads to school girls from Ibeno Ward in Nyaribari Chache, Ongwae called on the local community and other stakeholders to partner in finding a solution to the issue, which she regretted was threatening the future of young girls in the region.
"I am raising concern on the increasing number of twilight underage girls patronizing social joints and the streets of Kisii town at night. We have to look for a solution to address the challenge which is becoming a menace in our County,” stated Ongwae.
Ongwae challenged parents to talk to their daughters on the importance of embracing morally upright lifestyles to enhance their success in both their education, professional and life careers.
Girls, Ongwae observed, face a lot of social challenges and they need close monitoring and mentorship from their seniors, especially parents, teachers and other role models in the society to encourage them look at life from a positive aspect instead of engaging in negative socialization, which endanger their education and life careers.
