Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has defended his deputy Joash Maangi, after allegations arose over a souring relationship, with the latter accused of inciting the public to demonstrate against the county government.

Ongwae termed the allegations as a political ploy devised to cripple county developmental agendas, further accusing their political rivals of planning to disrupt their operations.

The governor, who addressed the issue for the first time in public, called for unity amongst Kisii leaders in general, as a way of inspiring more progress in their areas, noting that disunity always slows down the economic growth of a region, and Kisii is not an exception.

He was addressing farmers and other stakeholders at the Kenya Farmers Training Centre in the outskirts of Kisii on Wednesday, where they were seen seated together with his deputy.

Maangi too highlighted on the same issue, emphasizing on the importance of the two working together to take the county to another level economically, further distancing himself from the recently witnessed demos within the county.
