All market centres within Kisii County will benefit from a solar lighting project which initiated by the county government mid last year.

The project is part of the county’s mission and vision which is destined to ensure that all sub-counties are well lit hence achieving Vision 2030 and confirming a 24-hour economy.

This was disclosed on Thursday by Kisii Governor James Ongwae at the Gusii Green Stadium while marking the annual Constitution Implementation Commission (CIC) assessment report which was chaired by the commission’s chairperson Charles Nyachae.

In his 30-minute address to more than two thousand people who attended the meeting, Ongwae affirmed his commitment in seeing Kisii county becoming a model to other counties in alternative ways in power provision especially in rural economic empowerment through lighting of various rural based market centres.

The governor noted that he is launching the second phase to light up the remaining 33 centres. The first phase saw 20 urban centres lit up with the solar enabled street light.

“My government is working hard to light up Kisii. We shall have empowered our business people and the economy will shift from a 12-hour to a 24-hour. All this will be done before the end of this financial year,” the governor remarked.

He further clarified that he will work closely with international partners in order to raise the economic status of the county as a way of creating job for the youth and residents of Kisii in general.
