Nyando MP Fred Outa has announced that the upcoming ODM party grassroots election will only be conducted by party members.
Outa said party members are known and will be able to pick up their preferred officials when elections are called. He said no member of another party will be allowed to take part in ODM elections.
The MP said he is optimistic that the party elections will be conducted in a free and fair manner since all the members recognizes their colleagues.
“Party members know themselves and I will not dictate to my constituents on who to elect, I want them to conduct a fair poll,” he said.
Speaking from a hotel in Kisumu on Saturday, Outa said those who defected to other parties in the last general election will not be allowed to participate in the ODM elections.
He said such members who decamped from ODM should now not return to cause havoc in the ODM party elections.
Outa told them to join the party but should not seek any position or take part in the election for the time being.
“We know politicians who decamped from ODM in 2013 during the general election. Let them not come and disturb our peace,” he said.
The MP said they will be allowed to run for party positions later after they have matured in the party and build trust among party members and followers.
