Farmers in the county of Uasin Gishu have been urged to harvest and store water during the El Nino rains.
Kenya Water and Sanitation Civil Society Network Chief Executive Officer Samson Shivanji said that the El Nino water can be used for other purposes in January when a dry spell is expected.
"This water can be used in the near future," he said.
"Let us not just allow it to overflow, let us save it."
He said the saved water can later be used for feeding animals, washing and other household chores hence saving them the burden of paying huge amount of water Bills.
He advised farmers from all over the country to make use of the rains to plant crops such as vegetable in their small gardens.
"As we can see, the anticipated rains have been experienced in various parts of the nation, let us utilise it to our advantage," he said.
He further warned motorist to be extra careful on the roads so as not to cause accidents as the roads will be slippery due to heavy rains and mud.
"Pedestrian should be careful when crossing roads and also bodaboda operators should not speed to much because accidents are likely to occur at such season," he cautioned.
He was speaking at their North Rift offices in Eldoret on Friday.
