A 17-year-old boy was allegedly murdered by his 14-years-old younger brother following a quarrel over food in Mbogoni village, Kathiani sub-county on Wednesday.

The boys who are said to be orphans differed over food when the deceased poured the food, which the suspect had prepared prompting an argument.

The two later went to sleep when the deceased took his mattress and set it on fire on the door of the suspect’s room.

The suspect escaped through the window on realising that his room was on fire but the deceased continued confronting his brother and that is when the suspect, his brother, hit him with a stick on the head killing him instantly.

The area police boss Kizito Mtoro was informed immediately by the Mbogoni assistant Chief David Munyao who rushed to the scene accompanied by other officers.

Confirming the incident, the OCPD said that of late murder cases have been rampant in the area due to family disputes and mostly now that there is looming hunger and drought leading to some rivers and stream drying up and thus people fight for food and water.

He added that they arrested the suspect and will be taken to juvenile court after consultation with the guardians.

The body was taken to Kathiani District Hospital Mortuary.
