The Ministry of Devolution and National Planning is committed to ensuring all internally displaced persons find a place to call home before the end of the year.

Speaking in Gilgil on Saturday during the official closure of all IDP camps officiated by Deputy President William Ruto, CS Ann Waiguru called for patience reiterating the fact that all measures are in place to ensure the affected persons get resettled.

“Let us finish what we started in the most convincing manner possible because we don’t want anybody to be left out,” she said.

The CS eluded confidence that even other internal evictees in different parts of the country will be considered arguing that by the end of the year, settlement camps will have been forgotten.

“The government has allocated enough resources to facilitate the resettlement programme and we are fighting against time to ensure that the time limit allocated achieves the set targets.

She downplayed fears of ghost IDPs saying the ministry was scrutinising all names in their records before writing cheques.

“All families in the registry and those that might have been erroneously forgotten will be paid to start life afresh. Nobody should panic because we know what we are doing,” she assured.

Camps in Naivasha, Mauche and Banita were officially closed down with the DP noting that the government had allocated 18 billion to facilitate the process.
