Parents of a standard eight boy from Githungucu Sub-Location in Gatundu South have been arrested for refusing to take their sick son to hospital on denomination faith grounds.

The 14-year-old boy who studies at Muthiga Primary School was rescued by area assistant chief Peter Ng'ang'a who asked the parents to take the boy to hospital.

Upon admission, the boy was diagnosed with meningitis and pneumonia.

"The child was in critical condition because he could neither sit nor stand. He was also not eating. I asked the parents why they were not taking the boy to hospital and they told me that their faith does not allow them,” said Ng'ang'a.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday, Ng'ang'a said he accompanied the parents to Gatundu Level Four Hospital after which he took them to Gatundu Police Station where they will be detained.

Gatundu South Public Health Coordinator John Mwangi warned such parents saying that they risk being charged in court with child negligence.

"The law is very clear when it comes to children's rights. I would ask parents with such faiths not to involve their under-age kids because they risk arrests and prosecution in court,” said Mwangi.
