Learning resumed in most public schools on Monday in Mombasa County after teachers' unions called off their five-week long strike that paralysed learning.
Parents have now asked the government to extend the third term duration to allow students complete their syllabus.
Ms Alice Njeri, a mother of two with one child in class seven and the other in form two said the strike had affected learning and the children lost a lot of studying time.
Njeri said public schools should be given more time to cover for the time lost during the teachers’ strike.
“Learning in public schools was interrupted by the teachers’ strike while learning in private schools went on smoothly. The government should extend the term dates so that teachers can complete the syllabus,” Njeri said.
Mr Ali Mohamed, a parent to one daughter in primary school said the government should come up with a strategy to ensure that teachers cover for time lost due to the boycott.
“The government should extend third term calendar by at least two weeks to ensure that schools complete their syllabus. It is our children who were affected,” he said.
