Parents and students within Kisumu County are worried as schools re-open despite a strike notice from teachers.

The parents are uncertain whether to send their children to school or adopt a wait-and-see attitude over the strike threat by teachers.

Teachers want the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to pay the court-approved salaries before they can resume classes.

However, a spot check on Monday revealed a high turnout of students in both primary and secondary schools within the county.

At Xaverian primary and secondary schools, there was a high turnout of students who hoped that TSC would resolve the matter to allow learning without disturbance.

At the Kisumu main bus terminus, students were seen with their luggage as they boarded vehicles to go to their respective schools.

One parent, Jane Akinyi, who accompanied her daughter to the bus stop said she is not sure whether her daughter will be sent back or not.

Akinyi said it will be another expense if the students are sent back home which will in turn make the school term expensive.
