Parents from Nyamira County have vowed to move to court to seek compensation from the central Government over the teachers’ strike which has entered its second week.

They said they are saddened that their children are still at home despite paying school fees as a result of the labour dispute.

Speaking on Monday in Nyamira town, the parents, led by their chairman Vincent Mburwa, accused the Government of failing to address the strike which has disrupted learning in public schools.

According to Mburwa, they have lost a lot of money as they had already paid fees hoping that their children would be in school.

“We are moving to court so that our grievances can be heard. We will ask the government to compensate us. We have lost a lot of money since we had paid school fees,” said the chairman.

He noted that they have lost their money for four weeks. This includes the two weeks for first term when teachers downed their tools demanding 200 per cent pay rise.

They said they are wondering when the teachers stalemate will ever be solved so that their children can have peace of mind to study.

“By now it is almost one month that we have lost our money this year. We are asking the government to obey the court ruling to pay the teachers before we move to the same court to demand compensation,” he added.

The chairman urged all parents from all the 47 counties to come together and ask the Government to act so as to end the teachers strike.
