Speaking during the World Polio Day on Saturday, Yego said that polio immunisation which is usually done to children under 5 years old is very vital as it protects a child from being infected by polio which may lead to paralysis of body parts which includes hands and legs.

"I urge parents to avoid ignoring the fact that they should take their children for polio vaccination, my mother did not take polio vaccination seriously and that's why today am disabled. I challenge parents to ensure that their children are immunised since the disease is very serious and can cause one to forever be paralysed," he said.

He urged the national and county government to ensure that they conduct door to door sensitisation on the importance of polio vaccination which would in turn save many lives.

"Polio is a disease caused by a virus which invades the nervous system making it weak and can cause irreversible and permanet paralysis if care is not taken. As you celebrate the World Polio Day, ask yourself, is my child vaccinated? If not, please do it with immediate effect," he added.
