Parents within Kiambu Sub-County who fail to send their children to school have been put on notice following the increased cases of children not attending school.
Speaking from his office on Thursday, Kiambu OCPD Stephen Ng'etich said that some parents had failed to send their children to school hence using them for domestic chores.
He said that the cases were most common in the grassroots revealing that area chiefs within the sub-county had arrested 13 parents of the offence in the past three months.
Ng'etich said that education was a basic education in Kenya for every child and that's why even the free primary education was introduced back in 2002.
The police boss mentioned that the vice was mostly common in grassroots areas and said that the law will take its stand aganist the offence.
He mentioned Kirigiti, Njunu, Ting'ang'a as being the most notorious areas for this vice.
Ng'etich called on Nyumba Kumi managements and area locals to help in the menace by reporting such parents to police stations. He also said that employees who employ underage children as their casual labourers are on notice for promoting the vice.
He challenged members of the public against not reporting the matter stating that the life of those children do not depend on their parents but the entire society and the society should be responsible for all children hence also care for their basic rights.
"I call upon members of the public to help in fighting the menace in a bid to help save the future of the next generation," said Ng'etich.
